Switching gears nonchalantly…

I get asked the question, “Where did you learn how to cook?” a lot. I have to be honest, I have no clue.

My husband and I lived off of Ramen Noodles (I can’t even stomach them anymore) and Mac n Cheese for years. We moved into an apartment when I was seventeen and that was that! No cooking experience required.

I’m not really sure what gave me the idea to cook. I can recall living in our house (years later) and watching the Food Network religiously. I wouldn’t miss an episode of some of my favorite chefs. As I entered the kitchen, it almost became therapeutic. After a long day, I would beat the hell out of the chicken (tenderizing the meat of course) or gulp down my favorite bowl of homemade soup. I loved it.

Today’s challenge, if you cook or not, is to learn how to cook a meal. (If you do cook, make something wholesome!)

Why?  For MANY reasons…

  • Saves money. And really, who doesn’t like to save a little ching? Going out, paying for gas, tipping the waitress/er, purchasing food, costs money! Staying home and cooking a wholesome meal is little.
  • You know the ingredients. I can’t even tell you how many times my gluten-free friends have gone out and got sick from something left behind in their food. If you make the ingredients, you know for sure what is in your dish, right?
  • It’s healthier. There I said it. The chances you can serve up a healthier meal than order one are pretty high. Think about it, you have to plan your meal prior to the grocery store giving you amble amount of healthy thinking. By the time you get home, you don’t have any other choice but to serve a healthy meal.

If you think you can’t cook, (which I know you really can!), watch a youtube video on making your favorite dish, find a cooking buddy, watch a show, read a cookbook, just be sure to follow directions. I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!

PS I made this the other night and it was completely fabulous. Try cooking this awesome dish as well, Cauliflower Rice with Green Peppers and Onions.

Whoever came up with cauliflower rice is amazing. What an awesome way to add more veggies and replacing rice. I served this at dinner with whole grain pasta and it was a hit. I asked hubby to try it (because he hates cauliflower) and he actually liked it. It’s the small things that make my night.

So what are you waiting for? Get in your kitchen and pick out a dish you have been craving. Come back and let me know on Facebook or leave me a comment how it went! I know you got this!
