This week has been full of emotions. We officially started to home school our children for Pre-k. I did purchase a curriculum for our lessons, so to fit this new format, I once again turned our basement into a new classroom.
I’m not sure if you recall our first homeschool Pre-k classroom set up but if you want some more ideas, click here.
Without structure, I felt as if I didn’t have any direction. I know what to do but really wanted a format to rely on, which is why I purchased the curriculum. After all, this is Pre-k. I have to keep reminding myself to relax!
I felt the process of just starting homeschooling was quite overwhelming. When I have so many questions and not quite sure where to go or who to ask… but at last, I finally just took the plunge and started. Would you believe I was quite nervous to teach my own kids? I got over it quickly. My first day was the hardest, now I’m having fun and enjoying the process.
Since the previous classroom post was so popular, I felt it only necessary to update the new changes with you as well. Perhaps it will spark an idea to add to your classroom or home in general:
First, we have an attendance board. Yes, I know it’s just the two of us however I wanted it to fit a real classroom format. We count how many are attending class, what our names are, how to spell them etc. I find this to be an important tool to use each morning.
Sometimes we even play freeze to the music using our name tags as well. It’s really a lot of fun.
I have also included a math center…
Where I place different activities on the station every other day.
Art Center:
This is incomplete but it’s a start. I want to add a table next to the easel for painting as well.
Construction Center:
I rotate the construction center with small blocks, train railroads, marble stations etc. If I notice they are not playing with something then I put it aside for later use.
Dramatic Play Center:
Mr 4 pointed out that these were all “girly” items so I have included a few dump trucks and fire trucks as well. He seems to like this station now. 😉
Our new library:
We had a library in our “old” classroom but this one is smaller and there’s more room to sprawl out next to the sofa to read. (PS Read the last post and you’ll understand why we still have a sofa in the classroom.)
Discovery Station:
I currently focus this station for Miss 3. I sometimes place play-doh, toothpicks and containers with holes or even paper and scissors. Mr 4 is not too interested in these types of activities anymore, he rather build.
Puzzle Area:
I have a box of puzzles that I rotate for the kids. These are more challenging and Mr 4 enjoys them.
And last but not least, my teaching space…
Everything is low so the children can view it at their level. We have also included a weather station and a radio for our games.
We continue to use the computer station but it’s not really “played” yet. I’m okay with that too.
Next week, I am rotating our stations around but for this week, this is what we have. The kids seem to enjoy their free time and less mess of toys.
They get up each morning excited to go to school and this makes me very enthusiastic about even my day. We have been singing, dancing, exploring and having all kinds of fun. I really have enjoyed our first week of school!
As things progress during our 25 week year, I will update with photos and station on our room. This is going to be an exciting year for all of us. Thank you for joining me!

Thank you so much! It’s really nice to connect with others on this journey. Thank you for stopping by Anna!
I love that you have everything organized into centers, it is so good for kids to have defined spaces! I wish I had space for that. 🙂
Would you believe that my son is not interested in the centers? Just running around like an airplane… sigh…
