This creative and fun project was inspired by the Playful Learning Ecademy, a place that “brings together parents and children from all over the world to learn, collaborate, inspire and support one another—all within a safe and protected online community.”
At Playful Learning Ecademy, you will find a fabulous blog on inspiring-positive activities and ecourses for as little as $10.00. I took the creating “Playful Learning Spaces” ecourse and found lots of information, inspiration and innovative ideas to interest my own children in help making learning spaces fun and enjoyable.
Not only does this course have six lessons but they never expire and they are always yours! It’s a self-paced e-course that you can go through at your own time and convenience.
The classes include:
Class One: Image of the Child
Class Two: Encouraging Young Writers
Class Three: Nurturing Budding Readers
Class Four: Artistic Explorations
Class Five: For the Love of Science
Class Six: The Corners of Our Homes (and classrooms)
Supplies Needed:
- Picture canvas (you don’t care about) or artist canvas
- felt
- staple gun
- command strips
I saw this photo from one of the boards in the online community pinterest (in Playful Learning Ecademy) and fell in love.
Not only is it artwork for any wall but the children can make up their own stories throughout the day. They can use their imagination, create and play in this area! I love when Miss 2 picks up a dog and says, “Then the dog came down the street! Bark! Bark! Bark!”
Best part, it’s really easy to do! I’m not a creative, make-it-from-scratch kind of gal, but this project was easy that even I could handle the task!
First I used an old canvas photo – found at a $5.00 and below store (or big lots) for $5.00. I’ve had it for a while and never put it up, so I decided to create something with it! The other board is an artist canvas. They are pricey, but if you use a coupon you can get one cheaper at an art store such as Michaels or AC Moore.
Step 1: Cut felt big enough to cover the canvas
Take off any backings to the canvas frame such as nails or wire.
Step 2: Staple opposite corners to frame.
Step 3: Work your way around the frame, stapling all sides down
Step 4: Use command strips to hang up felt storyboards
You can make your own felt stories by using the left over felt pieces! Change the pieces every few days to keep the children’s interest in their new play space!

This is such a great idea! I wouldn’t have thought to do this! Thanks for sharing. I’m going to make one for our grand daughter.
I personally think the canvas are really expensive, even with a coupon, so I looked around the house for “objects” to cover! Let me know how yours turns out! I hope its a hit!
I’m sure your kids love it. I have a felt board; I’ll have to make some felt pieces for my kids to have fun playing with it this winter. I linked up behind you at the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party, so I’m pinning these on my boards!
