Zero Waste Week #CTWW

Last week, I challenged both of us to an eye-opening food waste challenge with our #CTWW group. Let me just say, this really was an eye-opening experience for our family! Before I started this challenge, I knew I was pretty aware of how little food I wasted. I only put on my plate what I can eat and we rarely eat out so there’s no need for me to waste food. I would like to publicly admit, that I down everything on my plate. Okay, enough with that, 🙂

However, this challenge was an eye-opener for me because what I’ve been missing is how much my children waste! Being in the stage of toddler/preschooler, they don’t eat everything on their plate and they change their minds on what they want half way through their meals! My daughter for example, ate half a peach and then said, “I’m done!” or my son asked for pizza and then never took one bite. Those are my food wasters! 🙂 To help resolve this, I try to give them little bit of food and see if they would like more. I told them we have plenty and just ask if you’re still hungry. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but I am now aware of how much food is wasted from my little kiddos.

The Challenge This Week

CTWW

This week, Zero Waste Week has begun and there’s two parts to this challenge!

1. According to Mrs. Green, the third most wasted food are bananas. Your mission: To check out your fruit bowl and come up with an idea using bananas.

Now, don’t think you can go and steal my freeze bananas and use later in smoothie idea. Because like I said, it’s mine. 🙂

2. Fridge time! Clean out your fridge and check the temperature (to ensure proper food storage). Move older items to the front to make sure you use them and…not wasting! This is a great money saving idea to not food as well!

So are we on?! I can’t wait to see the creative ways you use your bananas this week!
