Local Review: Bel Air Farmers’ Market #eatlocal #farmersmarket

Saturday mornings have always been my favorite time of the week. Not because I get to sleep in, because I don’t (I’m a mama remember?), but because I get to visit our local farmers’ market.

Ask the kids if it’s their favorite place, and they whine every time. Well…until we get there. If I wake them up earlier than 8:30 am, I get grouchy monsters. Don’t hate, I said 8:30 am, it’s summertime baby! (Unfortunately, I get up very early to do all my mama and me tasks…and it’s well worth it!)

The Bel Air Farmers’ Market is my personal favorite farmers’ market. For starters, it’s BIG with a variety of farmers all around. (Two parking lots full of vendors!) I get to meet some of my local farmers and taste their fabulous produce. This farmers’ market is even more special since there’s something here for everyone!

Walking around doesn’t interest my kiddos too much, but ice cream from Kilby Cream does. Here’s the awesome part – Kilby Cream delivers to your doorstep their fresh farm milk and other diary products!

(Good job mom, way to give the kiddos a nutritional breakfast!)

I think I’m a little odd on my shopping style but I like to scope out the place prior to purchasing. I want to know who is organic, who has the best prices, what flowers look the best and really who is growing what.

I always check out the bison lady but I haven’t ventured over there yet. I will. I must try bison. Do you like it?

We also grab a honey stick from the most awesome honey lady. Bees By The Bay has tons of different varieties! Local of course.

(They had a fabulous pumpkin honey but it has been sold out. We personally use their Wildflower honey all the time! If the pumpkin honey comes back…grab it!)

Then we continue our journey through one of my favorite places to eat, The Open Door Cafe

The Open Door Cafe serves the most delicious dishes ever. You won’t be disappointed! But I will be disappointed if you haven’t read their review… 🙂

I find myself busily hoping around, looking under tents talking to vendors. Always finding the freshest tomatoes, arugula, spring mixes, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, watermelon, corn there is.

The kids love seeing the “balloon lady.”

This is one happening farmers’ market. Each week you can find different treasures. A few weeks ago, I found a beautiful house decoration made from sticks and “robin’s eggs.”

This time, I bought myself these beautiful flowers.

If you are in the area, be sure to check it out! Every Saturday from 9-11 am. They also have a calendar page to see special events! Hope to see you there and we can grab a bite to eat!

Well, now you have my curiosity brewing! I’m going to have to check it out. As for the Bison, go for it! It’s not much different than beef in my opinion. (Personally, my favorite meat is venison. It’s also naturally the the leanest.)
