Let’s be honest, play dough is lots of fun. Even adults still like the touch and squeeze of play dough! I will admit, I like to roll, cut and create myself! When I learned a bunch of new ways to create this educational tool, I made batches.
Why is this such a great educational tool?
The benefits of play dough are amazing. First, it helps your little one develop their fine motor skills. With each cut, squeeze, roll, chop etc. they are working their hand muscles and building strength. And let’s not forget about developing their eye-coordination!
Secondly, it sparks their imagination to make their creations! Sometimes we make cakes and other times animals. Sometimes we cover cars (because “It’s mud!” says the preschooler) and other times we place different objects in the play dough itself.
This recipe is my favorite because its soft, stretchy and takes a very long time to dry out. The colors are endless, it only uses a few ingredients, it takes no time at all to make and I am aware of what ingredients created my play dough!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbs canola oil
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 tbs cream of tartar
- food coloring
- 1 cup all purpose flour
Instructions:
- Combine first four ingredients in a sauce pan.
- Add food coloring if usin
- Heat over medium-low until the mixture is warm.
- Remove from stove and add in flour
- Stir.
- Place on wax paper and knead until it’s nice and smooth.
- Play when it’s cooled down!
You can place it in an air-tight container for storage.
If you want to use all your senses you can also add different spices! The possibility of play dough fun are endless!
